Techtrend Systems only uses FAA certified pilots to perform drone services. There are still many people that do not realize that it is illegal to fly a drone for any reason other than hobby or personal enjoyment without having Part 107 FAA certification. You cannot do a buddy a “favor” using your drone with it not being considered a service. Doing as a service for yourself is not an excuse either. Being paid has nothing to do with the type of flight, it is solely the purpose of the flight. The FAA has made notice that it will be prosecuting for illegal flight moving forward from early 2018, ignorance is no longer an excuse. Be sure not to expose yourself,your business or your clients to the risks involved with using drone pilots that are not authorized to fly commercially. Insurance is another factor to consider when hiring or having someone fly for you. General business liability insurance will not cover drone missions or UAS service incidents. The operator must be covered under drone, aircraft or UAS aviation LIABILITY insurance. Many pilots out there operating have insurance that only covers their drone if it crashes, not the property damage or injuries it causes! Rest assured, Techtrend Systems operates with certified pilots and we protect our customers, their clients and all property involved with the proper insurance coverage.
The FAA has made available to the public, an Airman Registry. Here you may be able to verify that your pilot has been credited with Part 107 sUAS certification and license. If you don’t see your current drone service provider listed, you should be asking questions. Since you are also responsible for the drone services and your customer’s protection.
